Wednesday, April 9Wembley '78 Thirtieth Anniversary: Bobby's Dazzler'sFor a club the size of Ipswich to record five consecutive top six finishes was pretty impressive, but that aside many Town fans and media folk alike were beginning to wonder whether Bobby Robson and his side could step things up a notch in the 77-78 season and actually win a bit of silverware. Ipswich started the campaign on an optimistic note with a 1-0 home win over Arsenal, but injuries led to a poor run of form and by the time Christmas came around the Blue's were in danger of becoming dragged into a relegation battle and while they never dropped into the bottom two they didn't secure their top-flight status until late April. Cup form was a different matter though. Aided by a series of ties against lower league opposition - it wouldn't be until the semi-final against West Bromwich Albion that they played against a side from Division One - and a very late equaliser in the fifth round tie at Bristol Rovers, Town booked their first senior appearance at Wembley Stadium for May 6th, 1978. Outstanding performances from all twelve players that lined up for the Blue's that day won the Cup in some style with a 1-0 win against the favourites Arsenal.
