As one anniversary has come and gone - the 30th Anniversary of Town's FA Cup success back in May - another far more significant one is just over the horizon - the 40th anniversary of the appointment of Bobby Robson as manager next year, Sir Bobby having joined Ipswich in January, 1969. We've assembled a few cuttings from the Evening Star of Monday January 13th, 1969 covering his arrival, and we've also included one from earlier that month - also from the Star - suggesting that there was a bad smell in the air around Ipswich that was preventing the club from attracting a replacement for Bill McGarry. McGarry having resigned as Blue's manager in November of the previous year. Fortunately Mr Robson took a liking to the Suffolk air and decided to stay around for a while. And the rest, as they say, is history. More Tuesday, August 19 United Nations? Should Moritz Volz sign for Town later this week - following the news that Fulham have accepted a bid for the former German Under-21 International - it would make him the first German to don the Blue & White of Ipswich. A quick analysis of players present and past reveals that that would be the 29th different nationality to represent the Blue's since 1936. Not unsurprisingly England with 287 tops the most represented nation list followed by Scotland with 53, Wales with 24, the Republic of Ireland with 18, Northern Ireland with 15, Holland with 11, und so weiter, und so weiter. More Friday, August 1 Festival of Football 2 Following the success of his show at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Town fan Tony Cowards once again brings the worlds of football and comedy together for an hilarious and thought-provoking hour of standup.
