Tuesday, December 30 Call Upon The Beat Singer/songwriter Asa Jennings's musical tribute to Town legend Kevin Beattie, Call Upon The Beat, will be on sale at the ground on matchdays - on the corner outside Planet Blue - starting this Saturday before the FA Cup tie against Chesterfield. In 2006 Asa enjoyed considerable success in both UK songwriting and vocal competitions. In 2006 he independently finance his debut album, My Own Worst Enemy, which has sold in more than 23 countries, three tracks from which can be heard at www.asajennings.com. Monday, December 29 All-Time FA Cup Record Just when Droylsden thought that they had won their FA Cup tie against Chesterfield at the fourth time of asking their trip to Portman Road in round three is in question after they were found to have fielded an ineligible player in last weeks replay and may be ejected from the competition. If Town do take on the Blue Square North side next weekend in will be the fourth time since 2000 that they have taken on non-league opposition in the Cup. On the other hand should Chesterfield take their place it will the first ever meeting between the Blue's and Spireites. Tuesday, December 23 YouTube: John O'Rourke John O'Rourke spent just over a year at Portman Road, most of which was spent on the transfer list. Bill McGarry signed him from Middlesboro in February, 1968 and his 12 goals in 15 appearances helped Town clinch the Second Division Championship. Northampton born O'Rourke decided he wanted away shortly after the title win and was finally sold to Coventry City for £80,000 by Bobby Robson in November 1969. He'd managed to net a further 18 goals in 57 appearances but had his sights on bigger and better things and decided that wasn't going to happen for him in Suffolk. Saturday, December 6 The Terrible Twins Re-United Ipswich Town legends Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips who fired the team to the First Division Championship in 1961/62 are re-united on Saturday 13th December at the Planet Blue megastore, Portman Road. Town fans will have another opportunity to purchase Ray's biography 'Curse of the Jungle Boy' and have their books signed by the old strike partners, the signing is from 11.00-12.30. Ray and Ted will then be guests of the club and watch the afternoon game against Cardiff City. Crawford has donated his royalties from the book to two charities dear to his heart, The Oakley Waterman Foundation, which gives teminally ill children and their familes the chance to stay at respite caravans on the south coast and the charity to help fund research for Motor Nuerone Disease, up to now Ray has given nearly £4,000 to these worthy causes. The sending of greeting cards to friends and family is a tradition that goes back around two-hundred years gaining mass popularity with the introduction of the world's first postage stamp issued in 1840. Our collection doesn't quite go back that far but does include a Christmas Card from the Chairman, Directors and Club Officials dating from 1949. It also includes personalised cards for Junior Blue's members on their birthdays, and designs that incorporate images of Portman Road, squad photo's and player autographs alike.
